The Client
Pekin Hospital, located just south of Peoria, in Pekin, Illinois, is a 132 - bed medical center that provides advanced care and state-of-the-art services to the area. More than 170 physicians and more than 700 employees serve the needs of patients in this community hospital. |
The Problem
- Severely outdated, structurally questionable, watertube boilers
- Wide, seasonal load swings, which created tremendous boiler stresses
- Relatively new, Industrial Combustion burners
- Maintenance personnel diversification requires better automation and annunciation
The Pekin Hospital's steam requirements were fulfilled by two Babcock Wilcox, watertube boilers, which had far outlived their efficient and safe operating life. In 1991 the boilers were fit with new Industrial Combustion burners which was a vast improvement from the pneumatically driven Coen burners which were the original equipment.
Summary : Old equipment, obvious stress wear, extremely wide seasonal load swings, however, good fuel burning equipment.
