The Client
This Insurance
Company facility is a 3,000,000 sq. ft. complex which serves as the
data processing headquarters for one of the largest insurance
companies in the world.
The Problem
- Wide, seasonal load swings, which created tremendous boiler stresses
- Recurring Kewanee Phoenix burner head damage and subsequent repair
The Insurance Company's
facilities hot water heating system requirements are fulfilled by two
Kewanee, firetube boilers, which had experienced recurring burner head failures. This building has tremendously large seasonal load variations which range from 700
H.P. in the cold of the winter, to as low as 69 H.P. in the heat of the
summer. |
This extremely wide operating range caused a variety of burner and boiler problems which included burner head failures as a result of operating the burners at extremely low firing rates which caused burner head over-heating. Boiler stress as a result of on-off cycling was causing recurring tube and knuckle waterside vessel failures. |
Summary : Extremely wide seasonal load swings, boiler waterside vessel failure and burner head overheat failure. |
